Group trip planners compared
tripps vs Wanderlog vs TripIt
Wanderlog is a full travel planner, with ideas for places to go, budgets and phone apps. TripIt builds one person’s itinerary from the booking emails they forward. tripps puts the whole group’s journeys and stays on one plan, opened from a link with no sign-up.
Free, no account needed

What to look for
Who has to sign up
If everyone needs an account or an app before they can see the plan, some of the group never will.
Who’s on each journey
When friends set off from different cities, the plan has to say who is on which flight and where each person sleeps.
How bookings get in
Typing in every flight and hotel is the job nobody keeps up. Look for forwarded emails or screenshots.
What it costs
All three are free to start. Check which of the features you want come with a paid plan.
Planning at the same time
When several of you plan at once, changes should show up for everyone straight away, and you should be able to see who else has the plan open.

Each one in turn
tripps
One day-by-day plan of everyone’s journeys and stays, opened from one link.
Free
Pick it if…
- your group sets off from different cities
- nobody should have to sign up or install an app
- you’d rather add bookings from screenshots, PDFs and emails than type them
What it leaves out
A phone app, budgets, cost splitting and ideas for places to go. Offline, it only opens tripps already opened on that device, to read. A guest’s tripps stay in that browser until they sign in.
Wanderlog
A full travel planner: places to go, guides, maps, budgets, and apps for iOS and Android.
Free, or Pro from US$39.99 a year
Pick it if…
- you want ideas for places to go, and guides
- you want a budget and to split costs
- you want the plan in a phone app offline (with Pro)
Next to tripps
It plans several cities too, but has no place for where each traveller sets off from and no plan for one person on their own. Anyone with a view-only link can open the plan; Wanderlog asks you to sign up to save changes and to invite people.
Wanderlog’s websiteTripIt
One person’s travel plans, built from the booking emails they forward or from their inbox.
Free, or Pro at US$48.99 a year (US App Store)
Pick it if…
- you want flights and hotels picked up from your inbox
- you want flight alerts (with Pro)
- you travel often, for work or on your own
Next to tripps
Plans live in one person’s account and are shared from it, to view or to edit. A public link lets anyone view the plan, without confirmation numbers or documents. It’s built around each person’s own bookings, not one day-by-day plan for the whole group.
TripIt’s websiteQuestions
